Cosmetic Dentist in Frisco, Texas
Most people who come to us about their smile do not arrive asking for a specific procedure. They arrive saying something more like my teeth look dull in photos, or this front tooth has bothered me for years, or I have a wedding in six months.
That is the right way to start. The treatment should be chosen after we understand what is bothering you — not before.
Dr. Demian Kim provides cosmetic dentistry at Forest Dental Cafe in Frisco, including whitening, porcelain veneers, bonding, crowns, and Invisalign. This page is here to help you work out which of those is likely to be the answer, so the conversation at your consultation starts from a more useful place.
Start With the Problem, Not the Procedure
Use this to find where your concern most likely leads:
| What bothers you | Where to look first |
|---|---|
| Teeth look yellow or dull overall | Teeth whitening |
| Stains that whitening has not touched | Porcelain veneers |
| A chipped or worn front tooth | Veneers or bonding |
| Small gaps between front teeth | Veneers or Invisalign |
| Crooked or crowded teeth | Invisalign |
| Teeth that have shifted since old braces | Invisalign |
| A missing tooth in your smile line | Dental implants |
| A dark or grey single tooth | Needs an exam — often a nerve issue, not a stain |
| An old filling or crown that no longer matches | General dentistry |
| Gums that show too much when you smile | Come in — this is assessed in person |
Several of these overlap, and the right answer often depends on details you cannot see in a mirror. A gap between front teeth can be closed with veneers in three weeks or with Invisalign in six months. Which is better for you depends on your bite, the health of the teeth involved, and how much you want to change.
The Question We Ask Before Anything Else
Can we get you there with less?
Cosmetic dentistry has a natural pull toward the more expensive answer. Removing enamel for veneers is permanent. Crowning a healthy tooth is permanent. Once done, those teeth need restorations for life.
So the first thing we look for is whether something more conservative reaches the same result:
- Whitening before veneers, when the issue is color rather than shape
- Orthodontics before veneers, when the issue is position rather than shape
- Bonding before crowns, when the chip is small and the tooth is otherwise healthy
- Replacing one mismatched old filling, rather than redoing the whole front of your mouth
Sometimes veneers really are the answer, and we will say so plainly. But if you can get 90% of the result with a treatment that is reversible and costs less, you should know that before you commit to one that is neither.
Sequence Matters More Than Most People Realise
Cosmetic treatments have a correct order, and getting it wrong is expensive to undo.
Health first. Decay and gum disease are treated before cosmetic work begins. Porcelain bonded over an unhealthy foundation fails early, and whitening an inflamed mouth hurts.
Position before shape. If teeth need to move, they move first. Straightening teeth after veneers means new veneers.
Color before restoration. Crowns, veneers, and tooth-coloured fillings are matched to your shade at the time they are made and never change afterward. Whitening comes first, then restorations are matched to the new shade. Reversing that order leaves a mismatch that can only be fixed by remaking the work.
This is why we plan a full smile case in one conversation rather than treating each concern as it comes up.
Our Five-Year Guarantee
Dr. Kim provides a five-year guarantee on the dental work he performs. The industry standard is considerably shorter, and many practices offer no written guarantee at all.
Cosmetic work is where a commitment like that gets tested. Anything can look right on the day it is placed. What matters is whether the margins are still invisible and the bite still feels right three years later — and that is decided in the planning, not the placement.
Specific terms are reviewed with you in writing as part of your treatment plan, before you agree to anything.
What a Cosmetic Consultation Involves
We look before we recommend. An examination of your teeth, gums, and bite, including anything that needs treating before cosmetic work starts.
You tell us what bothers you. Not what procedure you think you need — what you see when you look at your smile. Photos of yourself you dislike are genuinely useful here.
We give you options, with trade-offs. Usually more than one route reaches your goal. You will hear what each involves, how long it takes, what it costs, and what is permanent about it.
You leave with a written plan. Cost and sequence in writing, before you commit to anything.
There is no pressure to book treatment on the day, and there is no version of this where we recommend something we would not want done to our own teeth.
Paying for Cosmetic Treatment
Purely cosmetic procedures are generally not covered by dental insurance, which pays for function rather than appearance. Where treatment is also restorative — a damaged tooth, a failing filling — part of it may qualify. We verify your benefits and tell you where you actually stand before treatment begins.
- CareCredit. Monthly payment plans, including interest-free options for qualifying patients.
- FSA and HSA. Eligibility depends on whether treatment is restorative. We can tell you which category your case falls into.
- Our in-house membership plan. For patients without dental insurance. Includes two cleanings, two exams, necessary x-rays, and a discount on treatment. Plans start at $100 per year.
